Artist's Comments

Okay where do I begin... I had this old ugly painting I did a year ago, and several months ago I got bored and started touching up and paint over the picture, I had only saved it as a jpg file, and yes, it's now the same size that I worked with. So yesterday I continued working on it and today I made the final touch ups. Who knows, maybe I'll touch it up again next year. I will post a picture in scraps comparing the old version with this, wow, I can't believe how terrible the old one is. :bucktooth: Also, I'd like to thank ~Rither for some very helpful crits, actually you've always had the guts to give good critique, I should draw you gift art or something...

It's not perfect, but still my perhaps best digital painting to date. Maybe I'll detail the phoenix/griffin some more later, currently I'm having a hard time doing it without making it look worse.

I can't think of much to say about improving it, if you add too much detail it'll blur together in the smaller mode and might detract from the picture overall. I know you're probably concerned about art theives, but maybe you could make the signature a little smaller or move it a little bit?

Hmm...the Pheonix is well defined, but I'm having trouble following the dragon's body and seeing it's head, I had to look at your older picture to tell what was going on. Unless that's what you're going for, it fits your style to do that too.

I see you've got some red over on the Pheonix's side, maybe you could add some of the yellowy-gold over on the dragon's side to make the dragon's head really stand out.

Thanks for your input, I'll see what I can do tomorrow. :)

I'm glad I can be of service! :D The only issues that remain are the griffins claw wich still is all flames. But maybe it's supposed to be like that? You tell me. I'd like to see some more detail on the red dragons wing, and the flower too. Just some of those really small details, you know, like you would sharpen the camera lens, because they are a bit blurry still. Other than that, I'd say you did quite a kickass job! :)

Ever seen a guy empty a 16 round clip, using just his toes?

Oh, I definitely wanted to keep the flame, so I just added some claws. Since this also is the size the "original" is, I've had trouble sharpening details. I think I'll leave it alone for now, and get back to it later when I've improved some more. :) Thanks for all the great feedback!

This is a wonderful piece. Brilliant contrast & use of color. Very well done. I have a question, though. Is there any significance to the little flower in the lower-right?

we daren't go a-hunting, for fear of little men..."

The flower was mainly put there for the sake of contrast and composition. Also, since I usually don't draw flowers I wanted to see if I was capable of doing so. :)
